“I’m all out of vanilla, now what?”

Creative Culinary Substituitions

You’ve just started a recipe only to discover…you are all out of vanilla.   But, wait…luckily you have bourbon! Luckily…..

This handy list offers alternatives when you’re all out of a flavor element.  Happy Creating!

Flavor Substitutes:

2 tbsps Grand Marnier       = 2 Tbsps orange juice + 1/2 tsp orange extract or 2 tbsps OJ concentrate.

2 tbsps rum or brandy        =  1/2 to 1 tsp rum or brandy extract or 2 tbsps water, white grape or apple  juice

2 tbsps amaretto                 =   1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

2 tbsps bourbon                  =   1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tbsps sherry                     =    1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or 2 tablespoons orange or pineapple juice

2 tbsps Kahlua                   =    1 tsp chocolate extract plus  1 tsp instant coffee dissolved in 2 tbsps of water
